Job summary

General Motors seeks a senior engineer to define the OS foundation for GM's software-defined vehicles. You will own hypervisor and VM capabilities, enable guest OSs (Yocto/Android/QNX), and ensure safe, deterministic performance across partitions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field; or equivalent practical experience.
• Ten or more years of professional embedded, systems, or kernel-level software development experience in automotive or similar embedded domains.
• Strong expertise in OS-level software on Arm-based SoCs, including hypervisor integration, VM config, and device virtualization.

Responsibilities

• Own hypervisor and VM capabilities, including definitions, partitioning, device passthrough, and virtio models.
• Design and optimize inter-VM communication using shared memory and virtual I/O for throughput and determinism.
• Enable guest OSs across embedded Linux (Yocto), Android, and QNX with consistent platform services and lifecycle control.
• Implement and optimize boot/secure-boot chains across partitions for startup sequencing and integrity.
• Build platform services for resource governance, health monitoring, and fault handling with automotive safety in mind.
• Develop container-runtime/workload-management for in-vehicle apps with isolation and lifecycle updates.
• Profile and debug across guest OS, hypervisor, firmware, and silicon; lead root-cause analysis with traces and low-level tools.
• Improve CI/CD, bench/HIL automation, and code reviews; mentor cross-team engineers.
