Job summary

Blue Origin in Colorado (Denver) is seeking a Senior Motor Control Avionics Engineer to own the technical baseline for embedded motor controllers used across lunar vehicles and mechanisms. You will lead architecture decisions, define reusable controllers, and collaborate with cross‑functional teams to meet performance, safety, and reliability goals.

Qualifications

  • B.S. in electrical, aerospace, mechanical, computer engineering, or related field.
  • Experience delivering motor control systems for stepper/BLDC actuators.
  • Experience with embedded control electronics in high-reliability environments.
  • Experience owning a technical baseline including requirements and verification.
  • Hands-on lab experience with bring-up, integration, testing, and verification.
  • Ability to debug electronics, firmware, sensors, actuators, and interfaces.
  • Experience with fault-tolerant architectures and safety-critical design.
  • Proven ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills.

Responsibilities

  • Own the technical baseline for embedded motor controllers across vehicles and mechanisms.
  • Define reusable motor controller architectures for multiple mechanisms and missions.
  • Collaborate with vehicle and subsystem teams on performance, safety, and integration requirements.
  • Develop controller solutions spanning embedded processing, sensing, power electronics, and firmware for BLDC/stepper motors.
  • Work in lab on bench bring-up, integration, and failure investigation.
  • Debug hardware-software issues using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and other lab equipment.
  • Define interfaces between motor controllers, motors, sensors, and vehicle networks.
  • Lead a multi-disciplinary team through concept to production transition.
  • Drive design trades and decisions for performance, redundancy, and environmental robustness.
  • Plan verification strategies, hardware bring-up, environmental tests, and qualification evidence.
  • Review hardware designs and test results with electrical design engineers.
  • Coordinate with systems, firmware, electrical, mechanical, safety, and manufacturing teams.
  • Communicate status, risks, and trade decisions to stakeholders.
  • Support technical reviews and ensure actions/risks are tracked.
