Job summary

23 Specialized Fabrication Equipment Group is seeking an Embedded Systems – HMI Engineer/Principal to drive design and development of HMI and embedded display systems for welding machines, portable tooling, and high-pressure testing equipment. This role focuses on intuitive, reliable operator experiences across product lines.

You will collaborate with product teams, define standards, and deliver multi-language, scalable HMI architectures while managing schedules and budgets.

Qualifications

• BSEE, BSCS, or equivalent degree in Math/Sciences with extensive proficiency in HMI and embedded software engineering. MSEE / MSCS preferred
• Ten to fifteen years' experience in HMI/GUI development for embedded systems in manufacturing or industrial equipment
• Strong proficiency in C/C++, Python, and modern UI frameworks (Qt/QML, LVGL, or equivalent embedded graphics libraries)
• Experience with embedded Linux, RTOS, or similar platforms as they relate to display and user interface systems
• Familiarity with touchscreen, display, and peripheral interface technologies (SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, Ethernet)
• Experience with digital and analog circuitry design as it pertains to HMI hardware integration
• Proficient in Altium (or equivalent PCB design tools) and all Microsoft Office applications, with Keil MDK experience
• Understanding of UX/UI design principles for industrial operator interfaces
• Detail oriented with a focus on meeting deliverables
• Project management experience with critical path deliverables
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Responsibilities

• HMI System Development and Design from concept to final execution
• Define and maintain HMI design standards and interaction patterns
• Product Management: evolve HMI platforms through releases
• Lifecycle Engineering: qualify replacement display hardware and interfaces
• Provide HMI hardware/software design for new products
• Collaborate with mechanical, controls, marketing and applications engineering teams
• Define and support PCB layouts for HMI controller boards and displays
• Customer Service: resolve field performance issues related to HMI functionality
