Job summary

Molecular Devices, a Danaher operating company, in San Jose, CA, seeks a Senior Firmware Engineer to design, develop, verify, and maintain embedded firmware for advanced scientific imaging instruments. You will work on real-time control, precision motion, and communications across multiple boards.

The role reports to the Software Engineering Manager and is on-site. Requires 5+ years of experience, strong C and modern C++ skills on STM32 or Cortex-M, and experience with RTOS.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering or related field.
• 5+ years embedded firmware development with production ownership.
• Expert in embedded C and modern C++ on STM32 or Cortex‑M.
• RTOS and non‑RTOS experience; hardware–firmware interfaces (UART/I2C/SPI, Ethernet).
• Experience with code reviews, automated testing, documentation, and root‑cause analysis.

Responsibilities

• Design and deliver production embedded firmware in C and modern C++ for STM32 controllers.
• Lead hardware bring‑up and subsystem integration across motion, imaging, and control.
• Develop and troubleshoot real‑time RTOS applications, including interrupts and DMA.
• Implement device communication, bootloaders, and rugged messaging protocols.
• Maintain CI workflows, review designs, mentor engineers, and analyze regressions.
