Job summary

Pronto AI is seeking an Embedded Firmware Engineer to join our growing team in San Francisco. You’ll develop firmware for custom boards from the ground up, collaborating with electrical and software engineers to translate schematics into robust, field-ready software.

You should have hands-on hardware experience, strong debugging skills across hardware, firmware, and software, and be comfortable with occasional travel for field deployments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field is required.
• Strong experience with embedded systems and real-time control applications.
• Proficiency with common communication protocols (CAN, SPI, I2C, UART, Ethernet).
• Experience with at least one CAN protocol (J1939 or CANopen) or LIN is a plus.
• Hands-on experience with electrical hardware implementation, testing, and validation from concept through production.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret complex electrical schematics and understand PCB functionality.
• Collaborate with electrical and software engineers to develop hardware specifications.
• Develop firmware for custom boards from the ground up based on schematics and requirements.
• Extend and enhance existing firmware to support new features.
• Interface with third‑party vehicle communications systems.
• Implement firmware for drive‑by‑wire retrofit systems on new platforms.
• Support field installations and troubleshoot hardware and firmware issues at customer sites.
