Uber is seeking a senior embedded software engineer for its AV Labs Hardware team in Sunnyvale to own firmware from third-party board support through bring-up and secure updates for in-house production hardware.

The role focuses on automotive MCUs, CAN/CAN-FD, Ethernet, and time synchronization, with exposure to AUTOSAR, bootloaders, power sequencing and hardware bring-up. Strong experience in safety and production lifecycles is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related field.
• 7+ years developing embedded software in C/C++ on RTOS or bare metal.
• Hands-on firmware and driver work on automotive-grade MCUs (AURIX TC3xx preferred; Renesas RH850, NXP S32 or similar).

Responsabilités

• Design, write and maintain C firmware and drivers for automotive MCUs on FreeRTOS and AUTOSAR Classic: CAN-FD, Ethernet, SPI, I2C, LIN, ADC, PWM.
• Own the bridge between vehicle CAN-FD buses and the compute SoC, including buffering, filtering, timestamping and latency.
• Implement power sequencing, sleep and wake, voltage and temperature monitoring, fan control, SoC watchdog and reset supervision, and gPTP and PPS time distribution.
• Own the bootloader and dual-bank (A/B) update path, including versioning, signing, rollback and recovery of field units.
• Own board bring-up and validation for custom hardware; participate in schematic reviews and debug with oscilloscopes and debuggers.
• Integrate and regression-test supplier firmware drops, keep builds automated and reproducible, mentor teammates on code quality.
