Job summary

Amaris Consulting in Peoria, IL seeks a Senior Embedded Software Engineer to design, develop, and maintain robust embedded software in C and C++. The role includes technical leadership, feature breakdown, and mentoring across the team. On-site work 4 days per week, with freelance or permanent engagement options.

You will collaborate with system architects, hardware, and product teams to deliver reliable software for safety-critical applications in heavy equipment and driver-assistance contexts.

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science or related field.
• At least 8 years of software development experience.
• Strong proficiency in C and modern C++ for embedded systems.
• Experience building and shipping software for embedded environments.
• Ability to mentor and act as technical reference for the team.
• Experience with Git, CI/CD and automated testing.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain embedded software in C and C++.
• Analyze new features and break them down into clear technical tasks.
• Distribute work across the development team.
• Contribute to software architecture with the system architect.
• Review code and guide developers on best practices.
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines.
• Develop automated tests and support software validation.
• Deploy multiple applications on shared embedded platforms.
• Investigate performance issues and improve application behavior.
• Collaborate with hardware, systems and product teams throughout the lifecycle.
• Participate in technical discussions, design decisions and delivery planning.
