Job summary

The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) is seeking a Senior Embedded Systems Developer to tackle national security challenges. You will work on constrained systems, build hardware and software prototypes, and contribute to cyber solutions for military and space mission systems.

You will lead small to mid-size teams, mentor engineers, develop firmware/HDL, expand simulation environments, and present technical findings to sponsors.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.
  • 6+ years developing hardware and software for embedded systems (FPGAs/SoCs/RTOS/microcontrollers/weapon systems) with Vivado/Vitis or STM32Cube.
  • Proficiency with VHDL/Verilog and C/C++/Rust.
  • Experience with interfaces such as I2C/USB/SPI/JTAG or TCP/IP.
  • Experience analyzing systems for vulnerabilities and mitigations.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10%.
  • Ability to obtain interim secret clearance and TS/SCI+poly; US citizenship.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a core team member on cybersecurity projects for military and space mission systems.
  • Lead small to medium multidisciplinary technical teams or projects.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance.
  • Develop firmware/HDL for embedded cyber solutions.
  • Expand and enhance simulation and emulation environments used in laboratory experimentation.
  • Lead hands-on experimentation and provide technical insights.
  • Provide hardware expertise across sponsor projects and internal research initiatives.
  • Integrate system components with test, measurement, and analysis equipment.
