Job summary

Jobtailor seeks an experienced embedded software engineer to lead development of controls software for engine and transmission systems. You will collaborate with design, systems, and architecture teams to ensure architecture traceability and program alignment.

You will implement, test, and maintain software using C and Simulink, following MISRA and SSQA standards while creating SDDs and SIRs and mentoring junior engineers.

Qualifications

• BS in Electrical/Computer/Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 5+ years engineering experience in the job-related area.
• DFSS Black Belt certification.
• Strong proficiency in C and embedded development workflows.
• Familiarity with Simulink, MATLAB, DOORS, and GIT.
• Experience with software quality processes and testing standards.
• Understanding of unit, integration, and verification testing for embedded systems.
• Ability to lead technical efforts and mentor junior engineers.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with changing requirements.

Responsibilities

• Lead development of embedded controls software using Lean-Agile principles.
• Implement software for controls and diagnostics of new engine and transmission systems.
• Collaborate with design engineers, systems engineers, and architects for architecture alignment.
• Support Behavioral Technical Specifications (BTS) with SSLEs.
• Develop, test, and maintain software using C, Simulink, and generated code per SSQA.
• Create and maintain SDDs and SIRs with documentation best practices.
• Own unit, POD-level, and isolation tests with strong traceability.
• Support BDD and TDD through acceptance criteria and test cases.
• Drive software quality toward robustness and maintainability with MISRA compliance.
• Participate in algorithm FMEA to identify software-related failures.
• Break features into stories and ensure acceptance criteria and DoD alignment.
• Assist Scrum team in delivering cohesive, testable software components.
• Collaborate with Scrum Manager/Leader to mitigate delivery risks.
• Mentor engineers and support onboarding and rotations.
• Coordinate with calibration/validation to meet performance goals.
• Participate in design reviews, retrospectives, and demos.
• Champion refactoring and technical debt reduction, IP documentation.
• Engage in Scrum and ART ceremonies.
