Job summary

Software Placement Group seeks an Automation (Controls) Engineer to design, integrate, and maintain manufacturing equipment controls systems across multiple facilities in the Boston area. The role involves traveling to sites, coordinating with site technicians, and delivering reliable, efficient automation that supports safety and productivity.

The engineer will implement controls, HMIs, and industrial networks, while driving improvements to manufacturing efficiency and system reliability.

Qualifications

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong understanding of industrial automation programming concepts.
Strong understanding of electrical concepts and theories.
Understanding of computer WAN and LAN networks.
Experience interacting with plant personnel (hourly and salary).
Customer-focused mindset and ability to write reports and manuals.
Ability to present information to managers, clients, and the public.
Ability to apply logical/scientific thinking to problems.
Ability to work independently and manage time.
Ability to troubleshoot problems quickly and effectively.
Must have a valid driver's license and be willing to fly.

Responsibilities

Develop, integrate, and maintain manufacturing equipment controls systems, automation, HMIs, and networks.
Travel to facilities to assist with projects and start-ups.
Work with site Control Technicians on troubleshooting, training, and start-ups.
Build relationships with Plant Operations to improve architecture and efficiency.
Support local Operations with electrical and automation issues.
Create written instructions for Maintenance covering automation systems.
Uphold a culture of safety and maintain a safe work environment.
