Job summary

Pentangle Tech Services | P5 Group seeks a Senior Control Systems Engineer to own the design, validation, and deployment of control algorithms for off‑highway machine systems. You will steer model-based design, on‑target integration, and in‑vehicle calibration, leading a team of engineers in embedded software development.

The role requires deep control theory, Kalman estimation, and hands‑on experience with CAN/J1939 and ISO 11783.

Qualifications

• 6+ years in embedded controls or embedded software development.
• 3+ years leading technical work or owning control-system designs end to end.
• Strong programming in Embedded C/C++ for microcontrollers.
• Advanced proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink/Stateflow and Model‑Based Design.
• Experience with MIL/SIL/HIL testing and on‑machine calibration.
• Experience with CAN, SAE J1939, ISO 11783 protocols and stacks.
• Proficient debugging tools: JTAG, fault logging, stack traces, CAN analyzers.
• Experience with GTest, Git, and CI pipelines.
• Proven track record in software architecture, design and code reviews.
• Excellent analytic, problem-solving, communication and mentoring skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead the architecture, design and implementation of closed-loop control algorithms and estimators.
• Develop plant models, perform system identification, validate control strategies.
• Create, simulate, and verify control models in MATLAB/Simulink and Stateflow; generate production code with Embedded Coder.
• Design and optimize embedded control applications in C and C++, integrate with HAL and multi‑core ECUs.
• Tune and calibrate controllers on machines and test rigs; analyze data for stability and performance.
• Translate system requirements into control and software requirements; support FMEA and safety analyses.
• Develop SAE J1939, CAN, and ISO 11783 communications and diagnostics.
• Maintain unit test frameworks and automated regression tests in CI builds.
• Lead design, model and code reviews; enforce MISRA C and MAAB standards.
• Mentor junior engineers; act as controls SME; collaborate with cross-functional teams.
