Job summary

Meta is seeking an embedded software engineer to design, develop, and optimize firmware for AR, VR, and wearable devices in Austin. You will work on low-level systems, device drivers, and connectivity protocols while collaborating with cross-functional teams to push the boundaries of immersive tech.

You will lead hardware bring-up, optimize performance, and integrate software from multiple partners to deliver a unified product.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 7+ years software development experience; 3+ years embedded software development.
• Experience with large-scale C/C++ code bases and driver development.
• Experience defining and driving technical work streams and providing technical leadership.
• Experience with wireless connectivity stacks (Wi‑Fi, Bluetooth, Cellular, etc.).
• Experience with Android and Linux platforms.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement software components across kernel to application layers.
• Develop drivers and services for constrained environments with high data throughput.
• Lead hardware bring-up, peripheral drivers, and silicon integration.
• Debug complex system-level issues spanning multiple layers.
• Profile performance and optimize across the software stack.
• Integrate components from partner teams into a unified code base.
• Develop firmware for sensing, imaging, haptics, and audio prototypes.
• Collaborate on connectivity features including wireless stacks.
• Support QA, manufacturing, and other software teams.
