Job summary

Axon seeks a Staff Embedded Software Engineer to lead critical software initiatives across embedded product lines, including body-worn and other cameras, drones, and connected devices. You will define architectures and advance AI-enabled capabilities while mentoring engineers across teams for technical excellence.

You will influence Axon’s AI strategy, ensure reliability and security, and collaborate with executives and cross-functional partners to deliver scalable solutions in a hybrid work

Qualifications

• 12+ years of professional software development experience with embedded systems and AI workloads.
• Deep expertise in embedded architectures, firmware integration, and device-level software engineering.
• Proven experience designing, training, and operating ML models at scale in production.
• Experience with large-scale AI systems including foundation models and real-world integration.
• Track record of solving performance, scalability, reliability, and security challenges across AI-enabled systems.
• 7+ years mentoring senior engineers and setting technical direction for AI-enabled products.
• Strong fundamentals in CS, data structures, algorithms, and software design for embedded and AI systems.

Responsibilities

• Define and advance embedded software architectures for current and future connected devices, including AI-enabled systems.
• Lead the technical direction for AI-enabled capabilities across connected devices and production deployments.
• Collaborate with research, product, and platform teams to adopt emerging AI approaches and models.
• Establish Axon-wide standards for reliability, observability, and lifecycle management of embedded and AI systems.
• Identify and mitigate risks such as data drift and model failure modes to ensure safe real-world behavior.
• Provide executive-level guidance and mentorship to multiple engineering teams.
• Improve software engineering practices through retrospectives, planning, and innovation cycles.
