Job summary

Joby Aviation in San Carlos, CA, seeks a Senior Manufacturing Engineer for the Powertrain and Electronics group. The role focuses on process engineering, equipment development, and scaling products from prototype to production.

The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical design skills, a solid grasp of design for manufacturability, process development, and rigorous quality control in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent.
• 7+ years of relevant manufacturing or production engineering experience.
• Proficiency in mechanical design, including fixture and assembly tooling design.
• Experience writing manufacturing work instructions and ergonomic workstations.
• Ability to interpret mechanical drawings and GD&T.
• Hands-on experience across prototype and production environments.
• Proficiency in SolidWorks, CATIA, or similar CAD software.
• Strong problem-solving and cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Develop manufacturing processes, assembly fixturing, tooling, and equipment to support both prototype and production builds.
• Design and optimize full production line layouts and workstations with a focus on safety, ergonomics, quality, and efficiency.
• Author clear, detailed manufacturing work instructions to ensure process consistency and repeatability.
• Lead process development using statistical methods including process capability studies, GR&R, and design of experiments (DoE).
• Ensure products and processes adhere to quality and regulatory compliance standards.
• Partner with Design Engineers throughout prototype builds and new product introduction (NPI).
• Drive continuous improvement of existing production lines, processes, fixturing, tooling, and automated equipment, by applying Lean Manufacturing principles to reduce waste and improve safety, ergonomics, and material flow.
