Job summary

Joby Aviation in San Carlos, CA is seeking a Senior Manufacturing Engineer to lead processes, tooling, and equipment from prototype through production. This role emphasizes mechanical design, DFx, and cross-functional collaboration with design engineers to scale products efficiently.

The ideal candidate has extensive experience in manufacturing engineering, includes GD&T, and hands-on work across prototype and production environments, with CAD proficiency in SolidWorks or CATIA.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent.
• 7+ years of relevant manufacturing or production engineering experience.
• Proficiency in mechanical design and fixture tooling.
• Experience with GD&T and reading mechanical drawings.
• Experience across prototype and production environments.
• Experience with CAD software such as SolidWorks or CATIA.

Responsibilities

• Develop manufacturing processes, assembly fixturing, tooling, and equipment to support both prototype and production builds.
• Design and optimize full production line layouts and workstations with a focus on safety, ergonomics, quality, and efficiency.
• Author clear, detailed manufacturing work instructions to ensure process consistency and repeatability.
• Lead process development using statistical methods including process capability studies, GR&R, and DoE.
• Ensure products and processes adhere to quality and regulatory compliance standards.
• Partner with Design Engineers throughout prototype builds and new product introduction (NPI).
• Drive continuous improvement of existing production lines, processes, fixturing, tooling, and automated equipment, by applying Lean Manufacturing principles to reduce waste and improve safety, ergonomics, and material flow.
