Job summary

Monarch Quantum, Inc. in San Diego seeks a Senior Electro-Mechanical Engineer to design robust mechanical and electrical interfaces for photonic systems.

You will own 3D routing, BOM management, and EMI shielding while collaborating with EE/ME teams to ensure reliable enclosure interfaces and cooling. The role demands a hands-on startup mindset, 5+ years in mechanical or electro-mechanical roles, and a strong background in SolidWorks, FEA, and Python/MATLAB tooling to drive precise, high-quality

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, physics, or related field; Master's preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, ideally in startup or technology company.
• Experience with mechanical CAD and quantitative analysis/FEA.
• Ability to collaborate cross-functionally and mentor junior engineers.

Responsibilities

• Specify and source high-density electrical connectors, RF coaxial connectors, optical fiber connectors (e.g., MPO, LC).
• Define cable bundle characteristics (wire gauge, shielding, bend radii, jacket materials).
• Manage Electro-Mechanical BOM and ensure full documentation and sourcing.
• Design 3D routing for power/signal cabling and fiber patch cords in standard 19-inch racks or enclosures.
• Implement EMI shielding and segregation to protect photonics signals.
• Collaborate with EE/ME to co-design PCBs to enclosure interfaces and ensure proper pinouts and cooling.
• Design rugged sheet-metal rack enclosures and mounting brackets; support thermally stable photonics components.
• Perform tolerance stack-up analyses for high-density backplanes; use SolidWorks and analytic tools.
