Job summary

Monarch Quantum in San Diego seeks a Mechanical Engineer IV to help build the foundation of our optical and photonic platform. In a fast-paced startup, you will design and test precision opto-mechanical assemblies, from concept to validation, and collaborate with leadership to shape engineering practices.

You will mentor junior engineers, perform thermal and structural analyses, and develop laser systems for free-space and fiber outputs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, physics, or related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, ideally startup/tech.
• Strong CAD and analysis skills in opto-mechanical design.
• Experience with laser systems and photonics is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, analyze, document and support testing of opto-mechanical assemblies.
• Develop laser systems and photonic products for free-space and fiber outputs.
• Perform thermal, structural, and vibration modeling of assemblies.
• Design flexures for precision motion of optical elements.
• Engineering analysis to understand loads and environment effects.
• Set up optical metrology and conduct tests and experiments.
• Mentor junior engineers and collaborate with managers and team.
• Execute complex tasks with planning, data collection and peer reviews.
• Maintain rigorous documentation and adherence to best practices.
