Job summary

Arc is seeking an Electrical Systems Engineer to own the design, build, integration, and testing of electrical systems on commercial vessels. You will write functional specs and work closely with the control software team to ensure seamless hardware/software integration.

You will lead hardware trade studies, select components, and manage supplier relationships while hands-on debugging HV/LV systems. This on-site role in Los Angeles requires travel and close collaboration with a lean team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Systems Engineering, or related field.
• 5+ years in electrical systems integration, hardware development, or system-level engineering.
• Strong understanding of HV/LV systems, power distribution, sensors and actuators.
• Familiarity with CAN/J1939, Modbus, Profinet, EtherCAT.
• Hands-on debugging HV/LV systems and harnesses using tools like multimeters and oscilloscopes.
• Experience developing system requirements, I/O maps, interface definitions, and architectural docs.
• Strong communication skills to translate hardware to software specs.
• Ability to own problems and drive to closure in a dynamic environment.

Responsibilities

• Owning design and integration of high and low voltage electrical systems for commercial vessels.
• Developing and maintaining electrical topologies, I/O maps, and wiring/harnessing definitions.
• Writing clear functional specifications and collaborating with software teams for hardware-software integration.
• Leading hardware trade studies, component selection, and supplier evaluation.
• Hands-on testing, troubleshooting, and debugging HV/LV systems in benchtop, HIL, and field environments.
• Supporting sea trials to validate systems and ensure feature parity between bench tests and production vessels.
• Interfacing with component suppliers, partner shipyards, and vessel operators, including travel (10-15%).
