Job description

Job Summary

Leonardo DRS Land Systems is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineering Technician to support fast‑paced product development, prototyping, and testing. This position is based out of our Bridgeton, MO facility and will have the option to work on‑site or on a hybrid schedule. The ideal candidate will perform a blend of electrical engineering technician duties — such as circuit assembly, bench testing, and wire/cable fabrication — alongside mechanical engineering technician work, including building prototype assemblies, managing additive manufacturing (FFF 3D printing) workflows, performing part finishing, and preparing models using CAD tools such as CREO Parametric. Knowledge of CNC/spindle operation is a plus, as our 3D printing platform includes CNC milling capabilities. This role combines hands‑on electrical and mechanical fabrication with digital design support and process planning to produce high‑quality prototypes and proof‑of‑concept hardware on tight schedules.

Job Responsibilities
  • Devises, fabricates, and assembles new or modified electrical and/or mechanical components, sub‑assemblies, and prototype assemblies for products and proof‑of‑concept efforts.
  • Builds and integrates prototype mechanical, cable, electrical enclosure, and electro‑mechanical assemblies from engineering drawings, sketches, or verbal direction; iterates rapidly based on engineer feedback.
  • Supports engineering with a variety of moderately complex engineering duties and/or hands‑on tasks.
  • Demonstrates competent technical expertise across both electrical and mechanical disciplines.
  • Reviews project instructions, drawings, and specifications to ascertain test requirements, procedures, objectives, and to support design for manufacturability.
  • Sets up and conducts tests of units, components, and prototype hardware.
  • Records test procedures and results, numerical and graphical data, and recommendations for changes in product or test methods.
  • Provides and develops documentation to operate and maintain equipment.
  • Works comfortably in a shop/laboratory environment and proficiently with associated tools and equipment.
  • Assists in design, building and/or procurement of new or improved machines, tools, fixtures, and material handling equipment; coordinates their implementation.
  • Is responsible for completing process documentation, bill of materials, route sheets, etc.
  • Operates and maintains FFF (Fused Filament Fabrication) 3D printers, including model slicing/preparation (e.g., Simplify3D, Orca Slicer, Inventor CAM), print parameter optimization, material selection, machine calibration, and routine maintenance.
  • Works independently on a weekly basis with minimal supervision.
  • Provides hands‑on feedback to engineers regarding manufacturability, fit, and assembly concerns.
  • Mentors and coaches less experienced technicians.
  • Supports, communicates, reinforces and defends the mission, values and culture of the organization.

Basic mechanical aptitude: able to identify hardware (screws, washers, nuts, etc.), understand how pieces of equipment mount together, and mount parts in a box.

Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 4+ years of relevant experience.
  • Demonstrates competent technical expertise across both electrical and mechanical disciplines.
  • Familiarity with electrical basics: voltage, resistance, power and use of electrical assets like DMMs, power supplies, oscilloscopes, etc.
Desired Skills
  • Knowledge of developing military vehicle electrical hardware, cable components and integration of hardware onto a military vehicle system (a plus).
  • Knowledge of using military‑grade components for cable design (military‑grade connectors, shielding, environmental seals, backshells, etc.) (a plus).
