Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking an Electrical Engineer in Midland, TX to advance power plant and industrial electrical designs. You will work in project teams to develop, review, and optimize power distribution, protection, and control schemes, ensuring compliance with codes and client requirements.

The role includes calculations, documentation, and design reviews. You will mentor junior staff, liaise with clients and vendors, and travel for reviews and field verifications.

Qualifications

• A BS in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program is required, emphasis in power systems preferred.
• 5+ years of experience in power plant or industrial plant design with integrated, detailed system design for new facilities or modifications.
• Experience selecting equipment, materials, control philosophy, and assembling calculations and specifications.
• Experience with electrical system design including MV/LV distribution, communication systems, equipment selection, and analytical calculations.
• Experience performing calculations in ETAP and/or SKM.
• Technically knowledgeable about electrical power distribution equipment.
• Experience serving as firm/client liaison in a support or lead engineering role.
• Experience reviewing other engineers’ design calculations and drawings.
• Master's degree in Electrical Engineering (valued but not required).
• PE license preferred or ability to earn a PE license (valued).

Responsibilities

• Work on electrical power systems on power plants and industrial facilities.
• Design, modify, and analyze electrical systems in project teams.
• Investigate, troubleshoot, and solve electrical engineering issues.
• Prepare specs for major electrical equipment and installation services.
• Coordinate design activities to meet specs, codes, and client requirements.
• Prepare and review single-line diagrams, relay/metering, cable block, and schematic diagrams.
• Perform calculations including voltage drop, protective relay settings, and arc flash.
• Interface with vendors for BOMs and equipment specifications.
• Review others' calculations and drawings.
• Provide mentorship to less experienced engineers.
• Travel to client/vendor offices for reviews and site verification.
