Job summary

WSP is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer (Generation) for the Power & Energy team in Oradell, NJ, with consideration also given to Atlanta, GA. The role provides leadership across due diligence, design, construction, and commissioning of power generation projects, including substations, protection, and control systems.

You will mentor staff, coordinate bids and budgets, and ensure QA/QC across complex projects in utilities and industrial settings.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering is required.
  • 10+ years of post-education experience as a power engineer for capital projects in power generation.
  • Professional Engineer license is required (multiple states preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of power engineering principles, design/build, and permitting.
  • Experience with Combined Cycle and Simple Cycle Gas Turbines or Heat Recovery Steam Generators.
  • Experience coordinating with mechanical and civil disciplines.
  • Familiarity with IEEE, NEC, NEMA, IEC regulations and standard practices.
  • Ability to perform technical computations and compare plans to regulations.
  • Experience in conducting inspections and ensuring compliance with policies.

Responsibilities

  • Produce, coordinate, review and/or approve electrical design plans for complex power plant projects.
  • Apply high-level electrical engineering techniques across all project phases from design to commissioning support and record drawings.
  • Support generation project scoping, budgeting, and proposals.
  • Oversee development of power plant electrical drawings (One lines, Breaker Schematics, Bus Duct Layouts).
  • Oversee equipment specifications (cables, transformers, bus ducts, breakers, etc.).
  • Lead large electrical engineering projects, manage budgets, hours, and expenses.
  • Assist with permit applications, design plans, and periodic inspections for compliance.
  • Meet with clients, vendors, and subcontractors to discuss status and decisions.
  • Ensure technical reports explain findings and recommendations clearly.
  • Maintain high quality and responsiveness to client requirements.
  • Develop a client base for high-level electrical engineering services.
