Job summary

BKV Group seeks a Senior Electrical Engineer with a PE license and at least 10 years of focused electrical building systems design experience to lead local projects in Chicago, IL or Dallas, TX. Salary Range: $130,000 – $160,000 / year (commensurate with experience)

About the Role

Seeking an experienced and collaborative Senior Electrical Engineer with a minimum of 10 years of focused electrical design experience to join BKV Group in Chicago, IL or Dallas, TX.

In this role, you will provide senior technical leadership and design direction for the local practice site and the national Electrical Engineering discipline. You will lead the electrical engineering design and documentation across multi-family housing, commercial, and civic/government developments, coordinate interdisciplinary design packages, mentor emerging engineering talent, and support projects through construction administration.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyze project design criteria, technical specifications, and performance parameters to engineer compliant, energy-efficient power, lighting, and life-safety systems.
  • Execute, direct, and oversee electrical engineering calculations, system models, and construction document sets.
  • Coordinate electrical design solutions closely with architecture, structural, mechanical/plumbing, interior design, and project management teams.
  • Support the construction administration phase by reviewing submittals, responding to RFIs, and evaluating field conditions.
  • Provide technical mentorship, coaching, and career guidance to project engineers, designers, and junior staff.
  • Collaborate with senior engineering leadership to establish, refine, and maintain firm-wide electrical design standards and best practices.
  • Partner with the Director of Electrical Engineering to execute rigorous quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) reviews across all electrical deliverables.
  • Communicate project status, design concepts, and engineering options clearly to clients, municipal authorities, and project stakeholders.
Required Qualifications & Experience
  • Licensure: Active Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Experience: Minimum of 10 years of focused electrical building systems design experience (power distribution, lighting, emergency systems, and life safety) across commercial, multi-family, or civic projects.
  • BIM / CAD Software: Demonstrated proficiency with Autodesk Revit for electrical design and documentation.
  • Codes & Standards: Comprehensive understanding of the National Electrical Code (NEC), energy codes (ASHRAE/IECC), IBC, and relevant local building codes.
  • Communication & Leadership: Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to lead technical discussions, present to clients, and mentor team members.
