Salary Range: $150,000 - $175,000 / year (commensurate with experience)

About the Role

Seeking a dynamic and accomplished Director of Electrical Engineering to lead the local electrical engineering practice, direct multidisciplinary project delivery, and manage engineering staff in Dallas, TX.

Reporting directly to the VP of Engineering, you will serve as the lead engineer responsible for the overall technical accuracy, design, documentation, certification, and client engagement for regional projects. In this hybrid leadership and technical role, you will manage and schedule the local discipline team, sign and seal engineering deliverables, establish firm-wide electrical standards, partner on business development initiatives, and mentor emerging engineering talent across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

Technical & Project Leadership: Serve as lead Senior Electrical Engineer on assigned projects; direct the preparation of calculations, specifications, single-line diagrams, and construction documents while signing and sealing finished packages.

Client & Interdisciplinary Coordination: Meet directly with clients to translate project goals into compliant, cost-effective power, lighting, and life-safety systems; coordinate closely with Architecture, Structural, Mechanical, Interior Design, and Project Management leaders.

Team Management & Scheduling: Manage daily workloads, project assignments, and scheduling for local electrical engineering staff; monitor weekly scheduled revenue goals and discipline project budgets.

Talent Development & Hiring: Partner with the VP of Engineering, VP of Operations, and VP of Professional Services on workforce planning, interviewing, onboarding, 90-day/annual reviews, promotion paths, and compensation adjustments.

Quality Assurance & Standards: Oversee the development, implementation, and refinement of discipline design details, BIM standards, and QA/QC procedures alongside the BIM Manager and technical leadership.

Business Development Support: Collaborate with Managing Partners and Business Development teams to support proposal development, fee estimations, client presentations, and discipline practice growth goals.

Required Qualifications & Experience

Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).

Licensure: Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required.

Experience: 10 to 15 years of progressive electrical engineering design and leadership experience within the built environment (commercial, multi-family, or civic projects).

Codes & Regulations: Expert knowledge of NFPA 70 (NEC) and Energy Codes (ASHRAE/IECC); working knowledge of IBC, NFPA 72 (Fire Alarm), NFPA 101 (Life Safety), and NFPA 110 (Emergency Power).

Engineering Software Proficiency: Professional-level proficiency in:

Revit MEP, BIM 360, and Bluebeam Revu

Lighting calculations (e.g., AGi32)

Energy compliance tools (e.g., COMcheck)

Power system analysis (e.g., SKM Power*Tools)

Generator sizing software (e.g., Cummins GenSize or similar)

Leadership & Communication: Demonstrated experience managing engineering teams, directing project budgets, presenting to executive clients, and resolving interdisciplinary coordination challenges.

Desired Qualifications

Experience or professional credentials in sustainable building design (e.g., LEED AP, WELL AP).

Track record of successful client-facing business development and proposal development in the Texas regional market.
