Job summary

Kohler Coating, Inc. is seeking an experienced electrical engineer to design and implement electrical systems for custom industrial machinery. You will own control architecture, power distribution, and component selection while guiding designers and drafters.

You will collaborate with mechanical engineering, ensure NEC/UL compliance, and support FAT, commissioning, and field troubleshooting. Strong leadership and customer-facing skills are essential for success in this role.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent extensive hands-on experience.
• 5+ years designing electrical control systems for industrial machinery.
• Strong proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical, SolidWorks Electrical, or similar.
• Solid working knowledge of NEC, NFPA 79, UL 508A.
• Experience specifying VFDs, servo systems, and safety-rated devices/circuits.
• Ability to work directly with customers on technical requirements and troubleshooting.
• Strong leadership and communication skills; comfortable reviewing others' work.

Responsibilities

• Lead electrical design for machine builds: control panel architecture, power distribution, motor control, and safety circuits.
• Develop and review schematics, panel layouts, and I/O lists for accuracy and manufacturability.
• Select and specify electrical components based on application requirements.
• Collaborate with mechanical engineering to integrate electrical/controls requirements into machine design.
• Ensure designs comply with NEC, NFPA 79, UL 508A, and applicable standards.
• Perform load calculations, short-circuit/arc-flash considerations, and panel sizing.
• Support PLC/HMI programming teams with hardware and I/O coordination.
• Review and approve drawing packages produced by designers/drafters.
• Support FAT, commissioning, and troubleshooting on shop floor and customer sites.
• Provide technical mentorship to designers and drafters.
