Job description

We are seeking a skilled Electrical Engineer with strong hardware design experience using Altium Designer. This hybrid role requires candidates to be located near Chaska, MN, with regular onsite presence to support lab development, hardware bring-up, and test system buildout.

This role spans digital and analog circuit design, high-speed PCB layout, and the development and maintenance of functional test systems. You will work closely with firmware and software engineers to validate functionality and ensure product quality from prototype through production.

Key Responsibilities

Hardware Design & PCB Layout

• Design digital and analog circuits from concept through production
• Perform schematic capture and multi-layer PCB layout using Altium Designer
• Develop multi-sheet, hierarchical schematic designs for complex electronic systems
• Execute high-speed PCB layout (controlled impedance, differential pairs, length matching, stackup definition)
• Participate in design reviews and support DFM/DFT considerations
• Lead hardware bring-up, debugging, and validation using standard lab instrumentation

Test Development & Validation

• Design and build bed-of-nails and custom functional test fixtures
• Develop automated board-level functional test systems
• Write and maintain Python-based test scripts
• Execute and document functional tests
• Maintain and improve existing test infrastructure
• Troubleshoot hardware failures and support root cause analysis

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Partner with firmware and software engineers to validate features and performance
• Support prototype builds and production ramp activities
• Develop clear and organized technical documentation

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent practical experience)
• 8+ years of hardware design experience
• Strong proficiency in Altium Designer (schematic capture and PCB layout)
• Experience with mixed-signal digital and analog design
• Experience with high-speed PCB layout techniques
• Hands-on lab debugging and validation experience
• Proficiency in Python for hardware test automation
• Must be located near Chaska, MN, and available for hybrid onsite work

Nice to Have

• Experience with signal integrity and power integrity simulation tools
• Familiarity with EMI/EMC pre-compliance testing and design mitigation techniques
• Exposure to embedded firmware or FPGA-based systems
• Experience with Altium 365 or other design version-control/collaboration tools
• Working knowledge of IPC design and manufacturing standards
• Experience designing to IEC 60601 or other medical electrical safety standards
• Experience supporting product certification processes (UL, CE, FCC)
• Familiarity with mechanical CAD collaboration for enclosure/board fit
• Experience mentoring junior engineers or leading design reviews
