Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to lead the design and upgrade of grid infrastructure in Upington. You will oversee substations, lines, and protection systems, guiding engineers and technicians through project delivery.

You will assess feasibility, prepare designs and calculations, and ensure compliance with safety standards and local regulations while coordinating with stakeholders and regulators.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Electrical Engineering with a specialization in Power Systems.
• Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng.) registration with ECSA is mandatory.
• Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in design, construction, and maintenance of electrical grid infrastructure.
• Proven experience managing large-scale electrical infrastructure projects from conception to completion.
• In-depth knowledge of power systems analysis, substation design, protection schemes, and transmission/distribution systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, and implementation of electrical infrastructure projects, including substation upgrades and line extensions.
• Conduct technical assessments, feasibility studies, and cost-benefit analyses for proposed grid improvements.
• Prepare detailed engineering designs, specifications, drawings, and calculations for electrical equipment and systems.
• Oversee project execution, ensuring compliance with design specs, safety regulations, and timelines.
• Mentor a team of electrical engineers and technicians involved in project delivery.
• Liaise with internal departments, external contractors, regulatory bodies, and stakeholders to ensure project success.
• Troubleshoot complex technical issues related to grid infrastructure and power systems.
• Participate in grid planning activities and contribute to long-term infrastructure strategies.
• Stay current with advancements in electrical engineering technologies and grid modernization concepts.
• Ensure all designs and works comply with SA national standards and utility requirements.
