Job description

Senior Electrical Engineer (Generation) - Power & Energy

Location: Boise, ID (Seattle, WA may also be considered).

Responsibilities
  • Produce, coordinate, review and/or approve electrical design plans for complex power plant projects.
  • Apply high-level electrical engineering techniques to support all project phases, from preliminary design to commissioning support and record drawings.
  • Support generation project scoping, budgeting, and proposals.
  • Oversee the development of power plant electrical drawings (Onelines, Breaker Control Schematics, Bus Duct Layouts, Equipment Elevations, Cable Schedules, etc.).
  • Oversee the development of equipment specifications (power and control cables, unit auxiliary transformers, isolated phase bus ducts, generator circuit breakers, power distribution centers, etc.).
  • Lead larger-scale electrical engineering projects, ensuring contributors know their responsibilities and deadlines; prepare and oversee relevant project budgets, track hours and expenses, and ensure satisfactory work quality.
  • Assist with engineering review of permit applications, design plans and specifications, standby plans and contracts, and periodic construction inspections to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and standards.
  • Meet with client, vendor, and subcontractor personnel to discuss project status, explaining engineering decisions and compromises.
  • Ensure technical reports and presentations effectively explain research, findings, and recommendations.
  • Maintain a high level of quality and responsiveness to client requirements in alignment with applicable standards.
  • Develop a client base for high-level electrical engineering services, including identifying additional business development opportunities.
  • Mentor staff to support their growth and professional development.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 10+ years of relevant post-education experience as a power engineer providing design deliverables for capital projects in power generation.
  • Professional Engineer license required (multiple states preferred).
  • Highly proficient with power engineering principles, practices, processes, design/build, and application to permitting and project work.
  • Highly proficient with power plant infrastructure design involving Combined Cycle and Simple Cycle Gas Turbines or Heat Recovery Steam Generators.
  • Experience with infrastructure planning, design, and program/construction management; including coordination with mechanical and civil structural engineers.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant engineering and electrical construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements (IEEE, NEC, NEMA, IEC, etc.).
  • Highly proficient with technical computations and calculations involving engineering principles, plans and specifications, and factual comparisons to regulations.
  • Experience with planning and conducting inspections and investigations on construction and design of facilities, applying applicable regulations and policies.
  • Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing intricate ideas to engineering and non-engineering audiences.
  • Strong self-leadership and communication skills with the ability to interact with clients, regulators, project managers, and employees at all levels.
  • Works independently to provide guidance and leadership to team members, with strict adherence to QA/QC standards.
  • Proficiency with technical writing, office automation, discipline-specific design software (PTW/SKM, ETAP, SES CDEGS, AutoCAD electrical, Bentley MicroStation, SmartPlant, Revit).
  • Experience providing critical review of vendor documents and preparing complex technical deliverables.
  • Well-developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from data, computations, and analysis.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness at coordinating and directing subcontractors to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently.
  • Extensive experience in electrical studies such as short circuit, load flow, motor start analysis, relay coordination, and arc flash.
  • Extensive experience in power system protection and control.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Engineering.
  • 40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR 1910.120) preferred.

Compensation

Expected Salary (all locations): $115,100 - $205,040.

WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range based on the applicant’s education, experience, skills, and specific geographic location.
