Job description

Senior Electrical Engineer (Generation)

WSP is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our Power & Energy team in Boise, ID (Seattle, WA is also a possible location). The role supports the Thermal Generation Team on multi‑site projects, providing design, permitting, and construction oversight for utility, industrial, and commercial power projects.

Responsibilities
  • Produce, coordinate, review, and approve electrical design plans for complex power plant projects.
  • Apply high‑level electrical engineering techniques across all project phases, from preliminary design to commissioning support and final drawings.
  • Support generation project scoping, budgeting, and proposals.
  • Oversee the creation of power plant electrical drawings (Onelines, Breaker Control Schematics, Bus Duct Layouts, Equipment Elevations, Cable Schedules, etc.).
  • Develop equipment specifications for power and control cables, transformers, bus ducts, circuit breakers, and power distribution centers.
  • Lead larger‑scale electrical engineering projects, managing budgets, tracking hours and expenses, and ensuring high‑quality deliverables.
  • Conduct engineering reviews of permit applications, design plans, standby plans, and construction inspections to ensure compliance with regulations and industry standards.
  • Communicate project status, engineering decisions, and compromises to clients, vendors, and subcontractors.
  • Produce technical reports and presentations that clearly explain research, findings, and recommendations.
  • Maintain a high level of quality and responsiveness to client requirements in alignment with applicable standards.
  • Develop a client base for high‑level electrical engineering services and identify business development opportunities.
  • Mentor staff to support their growth and professional development.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 10+ years of post‑education experience as a power engineer on capital generation projects.
  • Professional Engineer license required; multiple state licenses preferred.
  • Proficiency with power engineering principles, design/build processes, and permitting.
  • Experience with Combined Cycle and Simple Cycle Gas Turbines or Heat Recovery Steam Generators.
  • Infrastructure planning, design, and program/construction management experience, including coordination with mechanical and civil/structure engineers.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant electrical codes, standards, and regulations (IEEE, NEC, NEMA, IEC, etc.).
  • Advanced technical computation and calculation skills for engineering analyses.
  • Experience conducting inspections and investigations of construction and design activities.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for both technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Self‑leadership and the ability to independently guide mid‑to‑senior level teams, adhering to QA/QC standards.
  • Technical writing proficiency and familiarity with design software (PTW/SKM, ETAP, SES CDEGS, AutoCAD electrical, Bentley MicroStation, SmartPlant, Revit).
  • Critical review experience of vendor documents and preparation of complex technical deliverables.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills to derive logical, economical solutions from data.
  • Excellent coordination and assertive direction of subcontractors and other stakeholders.
  • Extensive experience in electrical studies: short circuit, load flow, motor start analysis, relay coordination, and arc flash.
  • Extensive experience in power system protection and control.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Engineering.
  • 40‑Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) preferred.

Compensation

Expected Salary (all locations): $115,100 – $205,040.
