Job summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join the Aviation & Federal global practice in Kansas City. You will lead building electrical systems design, oversee power, lighting, grounding and LV work for DOE-related facilities, and coordinate with multi-discipline teams.

The role requires PE licensure, ABET credentials, and strong knowledge of NEC/NFPA/IEEE standards. You'll mentor junior staff, perform site verifications, and participate in client meetings while managing

Qualifications

  • PE license and ABET-accredited degree required.
  • Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering; 7+ years’ experience or Master's with 6+ years.
  • Ability to obtain DoE security clearance and work with federal projects.
  • Strong knowledge of NEC, NFPA, and IEEE standards.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design of building electrical systems: power, lighting, grounding, LV.
  • Serve as technical expert on airport, federal, and defense projects.
  • Coordinate with architects and other disciplines for integrated design.
  • Conduct site investigations and condition assessments for design info.
  • Prepare calculations, drawings, specs using Revit/AutoCAD.
  • Lead or support electrical system modeling and arc flash studies.
  • Participate in client meetings, design reviews and presentations.
  • Manage electrical scope, schedule, and budget on projects.
  • Mentor junior engineers and designers; promote team development.
  • Support construction-phase services: submittals, RFIs, field support.
