Job description

At Jacobs, we are challenging today to reinvent tomorrow by solving the world's most critical problems for thriving cities, resilient environments, mission‑critical outcomes, operational advancement, scientific discovery, and cutting‑edge manufacturing, turning abstract ideas into realities that transform the world for good.

Reporting to the Electrical Group Lead, the Electrical Engineer is responsible for the coordination, development, and production of deliverables in support of the overall scope of electrical design. The Electrical Engineer will take ownership of the completeness, accuracy and timeliness of the work assigned. This role requires leading a design effort within a multi‑disciplinary team—including architects, structural, mechanical, civil and fire protection engineers—and working independently or collaboratively in studio or remote environments.

The position is in the Federal Buildings Business Unit and primarily serves U.S. Federal Government facilities contracted by Department of Defense and other federal clients (NASA, FAA, GSA, OBO, Intelligence Community). Design calculations must comply with IBC, IEEE, NFPA, ABA, UFCs and local/client requirements. The role is hybrid, requiring a minimum of two days per week in the office.

Responsibilities
  • Work in a fast‑paced environment under tight deadlines while maintaining high quality standards.
  • Act as Designer of Record (DOR) for electrical design projects, managing schedule, budget, delegation of work to junior staff, quality control and sealing/stamping construction drawings and specifications.
  • Gather information, interview stakeholders, make studies, perform calculations, and prepare original rough layouts and sketches as required.
  • Present findings and outcomes to clients and other stakeholders.
  • Perform high‑level tasks under minimal supervision using well‑defined standards, procedures and codes.
  • Perform product research; assist project designers and architects with materials selection and system research.
  • Design and perform calculations for lighting systems and associated controls.
  • Prepare load analysis for different stages of design and document energy‑compliance calculations and forms.
  • Perform construction administration and field investigation tasks, including document management and processing RFIs and change orders.
Team Development Responsibilities
  • Provide staffing development and mentoring for junior staff, ensuring quality delivery of products supervised by the Electrical Engineer.
  • Provide project quality control reviews at project milestones and continuous “over‑the‑shoulder” discipline checks.
What You'll Need
  • U.S. Citizenship.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) and at least 10 years of electrical design experience.
  • Professional Registration (PE).
  • Excellent communication skills, both in person and in writing.
  • Possibility of overseas and U.S. travel.
  • Proficiency in REVIT, AGI 32 Lighting Analysis, SKM Power Tools for Windows, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
Ideally, You'll Also Have
  • Experience in data center, power, UPS systems, generator systems and medium voltage distribution projects.
  • Previous DoD experience and basic competency with Federal energy standards, Unified Facility Criteria (UFC) and other Government requirements.
  • Design‑Build experience and DBIA certification.
  • Clearance or ability to secure a clearance.
