Job summary

Amazon is seeking a highly skilled electrical engineering leader to design and deliver advanced robotic automation systems for high‑scale fulfillment operations in North Reading, MA. You will work across hardware and software teams to define requirements, verify designs, and support field deployments in dynamic environments.

The role requires 6+ years in complex electrical product design, robotics or mechatronics experience, and a track record of delivering production-ready hardware compliant

Qualifications

  • Must have experience creating requirements, verification plans, and test procedures.
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent.
  • Experience in a fast-paced, high-tech startup environment.
  • Proven ability to convey complex concepts in writing and speaking.
  • 6+ years designing complex electrical products and equipment.
  • Background in Robotics or Mechatronic Systems.
  • Experience with configuration management (PDM/PLM).
  • Strong organizational skills and cross‑functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team from concept to production to design industrial automation.
  • Design industrial control panels, schematics, BOMs, fabrication documentation, and certification support.
  • Write requirements, functional specs, verification plans, and test procedures.
  • Develop field diagnostics tools, docs, and training for complex FC installations.
  • Coordinate with Operations, Manufacturing, Supply Chain and Quality, plus vendors for smooth design transitions.
  • Drive electronics issues, optimize configurations, and execute tests for verification.
  • Travel to vendors, installation sites, and manufacturing partners to ensure quality.

Key job responsibilities
  • Work with an interdisciplinary team to design new robotic industrial automation from concept to production, and improve and maintain existing product designs.
  • Design of industrial control panels and complex electrical systems, including: layouts, schematics, BOM, documentation for fabrication, coordination with build/procurement, certification/QC and field support.
  • Write requirements and functional specifications, design verification plans, and functional test procedures.
  • Develop field support hardware diagnostics tools, documents, and training to resolve issues in high complexity FC system installations.
  • Work with the Operations, Manufacturing, Supply Chain and Quality organizations, as well as vendors to ensure a smooth production transition of design changes.
  • Deep-dive drive electronics issues, optimize configurations, develop and execute tests to verify functionality.
  • Travel to vendors, installation sites, and manufacturing partners to ensure high quality bar is maintained.
Basic Qualifications
  • Experience in developing functional specifications, design verification plans and functional test procedures
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent
  • Experience working in a fast‑paced environment similar to a high‑tech start‑up
  • Experience effectively communicating complex concepts through written and verbal communication
  • 6+ years of experience in the design of complex electrical products and equipment
  • Established background in Robotics or Mechatronic Systems
  • Configuration management PDM and PLM experience
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work well with teams of hardware and software engineers
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent
  • Built and deployed robots to production environments
  • Proficiency with Agile Product Lifecycle Management PLM software and ECO’s
  • Significant experience with the hardware product development process.

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
