Job summary

Honeywell Aerospace is seeking a senior avionics engineer in the U.S. state of Kansas (Olathe). The role involves creating avionics design changes, resolving complex engineering issues, and supporting transitions from development to manufacturing.

Candidates should have a BS in Electrical Engineering (or a technical degree) and 6+ years in avionics, with knowledge across cockpit displays, flight controls, FMS, GPS, and related systems. DO-160/DO-254 and FAR 21/145 familiarity are required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or equivalent technical degree.
  • 6+ years in avionics/electronics industry.
  • U.S. person; eligible to work full-time in the United States; no visa sponsorship required.
  • Knowledge of avionics systems (cockpit displays, flight controls, FMS, autopilot, GPS, etc.).
  • FAR 21 (OEM) and FAR 145 (repair) concepts; DO-160/DO-254 familiarity.
  • Ability to assess business impact of engineering solutions; self-motivated with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Create avionics design changes and provide avionics product design expertise to sustain and grow Honeywell Aerospace’s business.
  • Complete engineering tasks using advanced avionics knowledge and engineering discipline.
  • Support design, test, manufacturing, and production teams in resolving design, modification, upgrade, and investigation issues.
  • Support product transitions from development to manufacturing and seek design authority delegation.
  • Review and approve Class II product changes with delegated design authority and ensure internal/external approvals.
  • Provide design expertise for field failure investigations, counterfeit parts, export/import classifications, and FRACAS.
  • Provide MRB disposition authority for nonconforming parts.
  • Communicate with customers and suppliers to resolve supply chain disruptions and defect issues.
  • Mentor junior engineers and refine GPES team engineering processes.

Job description

  • Create avionics design changes and provide avionics product design expertise to sustain and grow Honeywell Aerospace’s business
  • Complete engineering tasks using advanced avionics knowledge and engineering discipline
  • Support product design engineers, test design engineers, manufacturing engineers, and production staff in resolving product design, modification, upgrade, customer investigation, supplier investigation, obsolescence, and test system design issues
  • Support product transitions from development to manufacturing phases and gain design authority delegation
  • Review and approve Class II product changes using delegated design authority, coordinating internal and external customer approval and notification
  • Provide product design expertise for field failure investigations, suspect counterfeit parts investigations, product export/import classifications, and FRACAS
  • Provide MRB engineering disposition authority for nonconforming parts
  • Communicate with internal and external customers and suppliers to resolve supply chain delivery disruptions, no-fault-found situations, defect escapes, warranty reviews, and first-year-in-service failures
  • Mentor junior engineers and define and revise engineering processes for the GPES team
  • Collaborate daily with globally distributed staff at product design centers and factories
  • Report directly to the Engineering Manager
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as science, technology, engineering, mathematics
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 6 or more years working in the avionics or electronics industry
  • Timely decisions in the face of complexity while balancing analysis with decisiveness
  • Ability to estimate business impact of engineering solutions
  • Self-motivation and ability to work with little supervision while resolving complex situations and problems
  • Knowledge of avionics products and systems such as cockpit displays, electromechanical instruments, flight controls, FMS, autopilot, inertial navigation, GPS, DME, ILS, nav/com radios, satcom, radio altimeters, weather radar, transponders, TCAS, EGPWS, and flight recorders
  • Understanding of FAR 21 (OEM) and FAR 145 (repair) regulation concepts
  • Familiarity with guidelines DO-160 and DO-254
  • Understanding of product and test system configuration management
  • Ability to learn and comply with import and export regulations (EAR and ITAR)
  • Candidate must be a U.S. person: a U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, or person with protected status in the U.S. under asylum or refugee status
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis
  • Applicants must not require work visa sponsorship
