Overview
We are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer with specialized experience in data center electrical building system design. This role leads technical design and coordination of large-scale, mission-critical projects from schematics through construction administration. The Level 4 engineer provides project leadership, technical oversight, and mentorship while ensuring performance, reliability, and efficiency in critical systems.
Responsibilities
Lead the design and documentation of electrical building systems for data centers from schematics through construction
Coordinate with Supervisor on technical performance and project development
Provide deep expertise in key data center systems, including:
- Medium and low-voltage power distribution
- Redundant and concurrently maintainable system design (Tier III/IV)
- Generator, UPS, and PDU integration
- Lighting and controls for secure environments
- Fire alarm and life safety systems
- Equipment selection and specification writing Serve as Project Discipline Team Leader on complex, multi-phase data center projects Direct and oversee the work of electrical team members, ensuring quality and budget alignment Develop and monitor electrical project status reports Prepare electrical discipline man-hour estimates in coordination with Engineering Discipline Leader Lead NEC and NFPA code research and enforce compliance Support development of cost models and design-to-budget strategies Maintain an Electrical Basis of Design Journal specific to data center performance and reliability requirements Attend project coordination meetings with clients, consultants, and internal teams Provide technical responses during bidding and construction administration phases Monitor and mentor staff to ensure consistent, high-quality technical output
Qualifications
Perform additional duties as required by the supervisor
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and PE licensure required
Minimum 6 years of experience in data center or mission-critical facility design
Deep understanding of power system reliability, redundancy, and maintainability (Uptime Institute Tier standards preferred)
Strong command of electrical system modeling (short circuit, arc flash, selective coordination); SKM, ETAP, or EDSA preferred
Proficiency in BIM tools (e.g., Revit) and coordination platforms
LEED Accredited Professional preferred
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Proven leadership, team management, and mentoring capabilities
Ability to perform in deadline-driven, technically complex environments
Day-to-day
Coordinate with clients and internal teams on electrical requirements and infrastructure strategy
Develop and review electrical system layouts and one-line diagrams
Perform load calculations and system modeling
Write and edit technical specifications and design narratives
Mentor junior engineers on mission-critical design principles
Participate in project meetings and provide progress updates
Oversee quality control of electrical deliverables
Stay current with industry standards and innovations in data center design
Respond to contractor RFIs and submittals during construction phases
Support commissioning and system validation efforts
