The role manages testing of various products to ensure designs meet safety, electromagnetic interference/electromagnetic compatibility (EMI/EMC), mechanical, and environmental standards. Responsibilities include designing test plans, performing component‑level troubleshooting on printed wire assemblies (PWAs), authoring formal regulatory reports, and participating in internal and external compliance testing efforts. The engineer collaborates with global laboratories and cross‑functional design teams to oversee compliance throughout the new product development (NPD) process and serves as the primary technical interface for nationally recognized testing laboratories (NRTLs) such as TUV. Preferred qualifications include familiarity with NRTL standards and transportation test standards. The position involves travel to external labs and customer sites.

  • Perform and document design verification testing (DVT) as well as thermal testing as part of NPD.
  • Troubleshoot electrical circuits and PCB layouts to identify root cause of test failures.
  • Plan and perform highly accelerated life testing (HALT) and highly accelerated stress screening (HASS) on products to identify operating and destructive limits and ensure reliability.
  • Execute shock and vibration (mechanical stress) testing on electrodynamic shakers to ensure durability.
Collaboration and Support
  • Lead product evaluations for certification against US, Canadian, and European standards such as UL, CSA, IEC, and EN by coordinating directly with NRTLs.
  • Participate in, lead, or support internal and customer regulatory audits.
  • Coordinate product field evaluations periodically.
  • Author detailed test procedures, comprehensive plans, and formal reports suitable for regulatory review and internal design optimization.
  • Travel to external labs and customer sites.

  • Ability to travel 20–30 % of the time.
Desired Qualifications
  • Strong proficiency in understanding electrical circuit schematics and diagnosing issues at the component level.
  • Thorough understanding of product safety and compliance certifications such as UL, CE, CSA, and transportation test standards.
  • Experience using automated EMC test software (e.g., Rohde & Schwarz ELEKTRA).
  • Excellent communication skills to act as a technical lead and coordinate with testing laboratories and cross‑functional teams.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multi‑task in a complex business environment.
