Job summary

Peraton Labs seeks a Senior Electrical Engineer to design, develop, test, and deploy advanced electronics for prototypes and field systems. You will work in a small, multi-disciplinary team with responsibilities spanning design documentation, testing, and hands-on troubleshooting.

The role requires a PhD/MS/BS with significant experience in electrical engineering, analog/digital circuitry, and embedded computing.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test experimental and production electrical systems.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will possess the ability to work semi‑independently in a small multi-disciplinary team utilizing their experience to analyze and design electronics and electrical systems. Additionally, developing embedded devices and modules to power, generate, and receive signals for prototypes and field‑deployable systems is a critical component of this job. The ability to read, comprehend and generate professional quality design documentation is a required capability for this position.

Job Purpose

This position will support the design, development, testing and operational phases of projects undertaken at Peraton Labs, the research and development arm of Peraton corporation. This position requires the successful candidate to work closely with a diverse team of engineering, scientific and technical staff to develop novel solutions in support of such projects.

Duties and Responsibilities Include:
  • Designing, developing, and testing of experimental and production systems.
  • Providing engineering oversight of technical staff when appropriate.
  • Providing Hands‑on work to test electronics, diagnose failures and render repairs if needed.
  • Developing and reviewing documentation packages including schematics, wiring diagrams, drawings, and test plans.
  • Developing embedded computing and digital signal processing designs and applications.
  • Providing expertise in analyzing analog and digital circuitry with both known and unknown properties.
Qualifications
Required Education and Work Experience

The successful candidate has diversified knowledge of principles and practices in engineering. A degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering is required with the following experience levels:

  • BS with 12 or more years of experience.
  • MS with 10 or more years of experience.
  • PhD with 7 or more years of experience.

(Experience must be with relevant work in a professional setting)

Required Skills/Attributes
  • Experienced in generating and reading State Machine, Logic, Flow, and Interconnection Diagrams.
  • Experience with Schematic and PCB layout tools such as KiCad.
  • Experience with analog simulation software (e.g., spice).
  • Skilled in electrical circuit testing and analysis including prototyping sub-systems.
  • Experience creating electrical sub-systems and prototypes for field deployable systems using fully customized designs, or adapter modules to connect to existing equipment.
  • Familiarity with lab/bench hardware such as oscilloscopes, power supplies (AC and DC), and spectrum analyzers.
  • Ability to communicate designs through presentations and be comfortable providing material for review.
  • Familiar with C, C++, Python, or MATLAB for automating data collection and analysis.
  • Experience working with analog data acquisition and signal conditioning techniques.
  • Experience with designing and troubleshooting cabling and interconnectivity.
  • Proficient in writing technical documentation in MS word and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to obtain Secret clearance.
  • U.S. Citizenship.
Desired Skills/Attributes
  • Experience with mechanical or optical engineering.
  • Experience with in-depth analysis of electrical systems for reverse engineering.
  • Experience with design version control and configuration management.

Target Salary Range

$135,000 - $216,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual's experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
