Qualifications

Job description

  • Location: Naval Surface Warfare Center, Port Hueneme Division (NSWC PHD) - Port Hueneme, CA
  • Salary Range: $125K - $152K / year + full benefits
  • Clearance & Citizenship: US Citizenship required; must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.
  • Travel Requirements: Up to 25% travel (CONUS/OCONUS; valid driver's license and US passport required).
Role Summary

The Senior Electrical Engineer will join the Automatic Test Equipment (ATE) Engineering Branch at NSWC PHD to lead the design, development, programming, testing, and lifecycle support of test equipment and simulators for the MK41 and MK57 Vertical Launching System (VLS) programs. This role combines hands-on digital/analog system design with mentoring government and contractor junior engineers.

Key Responsibilities
  • ATE & Test System Design: Design new ATE systems, simulators, and All-Up Round (AUR) Built-In-Test (BIT) equipment for MK41/MK57 VLS launchers and canisters.
  • Control Software Oversight: Design or collaborate with software teams to develop control software and ensure error-free operation.
  • Fabrication & Technical Oversight: Supervise system fabrication, assembly, and creation of technical data packages (schematics, manuals, procedures).
  • System Integration & Testing: Provide engineering support for system installation, checkout, troubleshooting, repair, and technician training.
  • Mentorship & Quality Reviews: Coach junior engineers/technicians and review existing designs for component end-of-life (EOL), optimization, and cost reduction.
Qualifications
Required
  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or equivalent. MSEE is a plus.
  • Experience: 10+ years in electronics hardware and software design.
  • Technical Depth: In-depth knowledge of ATE architecture, DC/AC bench/ATE measurement techniques, and advanced debugging skills.
  • PCB Design: Direct experience applying PCB design rules for signal integrity and low-noise power distribution.
  • Physical Requirement: Ability to lift at least 25 lbs.
Preferred Skills
  • Hardware & Software Tools: Experience with National Instruments PXI/PXIe hardware and LabVIEW.
  • Programming Languages: Proficiency in C++, C#, Visual Basic, Python, PERL, or FPGA design (Verilog/VHDL).
  • Domain Context: Familiarity with Navy Information Assurance (IA) requirements, microcontrollers, and UNIX/Linux/Windows OS environments.
