Orange is a distributed energy management company with the mission to make power productive.
We are the fastest-growing EV charging company in the country, trusted by the largest developers and owners to solve their EV charging and energy management challenges.
Every property we deploy runs OrangeNet, our edge-first energy platform. It unlocks idle power without complicated setup, and keeps working even in offline, real-world environments. We continue to expand the platform that supports residents, the grid, and energy-hungry workloads.
- Tenacious curiosity. Dig to first principles.
- Relentless honesty. Say what's true, early.
- Reliability. Do what you say, build for the long run.
- Move the ball forward. Own it and get it done.
We want people to join the team who are drivers, not passengers. If you want to build the intelligence layer between buildings and the grid at scale, this is the place.
The role
A Senior Electrical Engineer with power systems experience who designs, prototypes, and scales hardware across our energy management platform, from the device to the site to the grid.
What you will do
- Lead electrical architecture and design across our energy management hardware, from connected devices and gateways to site-level power control.
- Maintain current products, launch new ones, and help push the bounds of what comes next.
- Extend and scale our power control systems: batteries, inverters, EV chargers, and other large loads connected to the grid, including next-generation dense electrical loads.
- Evaluate and qualify the vendors who supply parts of our energy management platform, such as site controllers, batteries, and inverters, and integrate them with OrangeNet.
- Design for safety at the system level: failure modes, fallbacks, DFMEA, hazard analysis. Carry designs through UL and related certifications, especially in the power control space.
- Drive cost down, DFM, second sourcing, and end-of-line test with our contract manufacturers.
- Debug system-level electrical issues across power, control, and communication.
- Work across engineering and cross-functionally with firmware, mechanical, platform, and product.
What you bring
- BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Power Systems, or a related field, and 8+ years designing and shipping embedded hardware, with power systems experience: AC/DC, protection, sensing, thermal.
- Experience building and working with power control systems, microgrids, BESS, and building management systems.
- Systems thinker and designer. You balance fast prototyping with production-ready rigor.
- Full lifecycle experience, from prototype through launch and sustaining, with hardware in the field.
- Device-to-cloud integration: current sensors, RS-485, Modbus, gateways, and how they connect to a software platform.
- Hands-on on the bench. Altium, LTspice or equivalent, Python for test automation, source control.
- Excited about AI and always looking for ways to use it to go faster, with the judgment to keep it in check.
- Startup or small-company experience. Bay Area based. Some travel to vendors and contract manufacturers, including overseas.
Nice to have
- Familiarity with power control system architectures and certifications such as UL 3141, UL 2594, UL 2755, UL 9540, and UL 1741, along with NFPA guidelines across different classes of electrical equipment.
- Battery charging and BMS integration. 3-phase commercial power. Control theory for power conversion.
- Harsh-environment or outdoor products. Practical RF implementation. Overseas CM experience.
Why Orange
Work across the full hardware stack, from device to site to grid, at one of the fastest-growing companies building distributed energy and compute capacity. Direct, outsized impact. Real equity.
