Job summary

Vanderweil Engineers in Boston, MA is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer with 12+ years of building systems design experience to lead electrical design on complex projects across healthcare, science, academic and commercial sectors.

You will mentor junior engineers, coordinate with architects and mechanical/plumbing teams, and supervise the development of construction documents while ensuring NEC compliance and high-quality deliverables. Hybrid schedule offered.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent experience.

• Revit knowledge is a plus; PE license preferred.

Responsibilities

Position Overview

We are seeking a motivated and experienced Electrical Engineer with 12+ years of building systems design experience. This individual will lead electrical design efforts on a variety of complex projects, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate closely with clients, Architects, and other engineering disciplines.

We are looking for someone who works well in a team environment and is an effective communicator. Experience across all project phases—including Concept Reports, Site Visits, Schematic Design, Design Development, Construction Documents, and Construction Administration—is an essential part of this role.

You will work as part of a project team to develop engineering solutions for large-scale, complex building projects, corroborate/coordinate with other design team members including Architect, Mechanical, Plumbing or Structural engineers to ensure electrical systems are integrated and coordinated with the project’s goals.

Here is what some of your responsibilities include and what we are looking for with this role:

• Serve as lead project engineer on a variety of projects from new construction to renovations through all phases from conceptual design to construction. Project types include but are not limited to office buildings, labs, data centers, academic, high rise residential, hotels, museums, industrial, financial, government.
• Be part of the project team in the production of engineering solutions for large scale and complex building projects.
• Coordinate design with internal teams (mechanical, plumbing, sustainability) and external stakeholders (architects, contractors, consultants).
• Responsible for the design of power distribution, lighting, emergency and standby power supply in accordance with all applicable NEC codes and standards. Maintain a strong understanding of associated Codes and Standards and ensure compliance in all team activities. Document design calculations and design path decisions.
• Develop specifications, legends, site plans, lighting plans, power plans, one-lines, riser diagrams, details, various schedules such as panelboard schedules and mechanical schedules as well as load calculations.
• Develop and evaluate best engineering solutions for projects, and support and perform quality control reviews at various stages of design.
• Attend client meetings to present and review our drawings with Owners and Architects.
• Lead the project electrical team of engineers and designers and provide technical guidance in the development of the construction documents as well as support assigned staff on technical and administrative issues.
• Mentor and supervise junior engineers. Continuously evaluate and improve the Team’s deliverable quality, communications and attitude as well as review designs with QA-QC Engineer and Department Head.
• Work in conjunction with the Managing Principal, Project Managers and Electrical team to plan the work and balance deliverables with budgets on multiple projects.
• Perform Construction Administration tasks such as field visits and subsequent issuance of field reports, responding to RFIs and reviewing shop drawings.
• Perform studies associated with conceptual designs which may require site surveys of existing conditions, system sizing and definition of required space for anticipated electrical equipment.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• 12+ years of related experience
• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent experience
• Revit knowledge is a plus.


• Understanding of the NEC, IBC and IECC.


• SKM, AGI 32 and AMPCALC desired.


• PE license highly preferred


• Strong organizational and time-management abilities.

The total compensation that we expect to pay for this position is dependent on years of experience, licensure, education, geographic location, and project portfolio but expected to be in the $140,000 to $160,000 range.
