We are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to lead the design, development, and qualification of power conversion electronics for Battery Backup (BBU) and Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems.
This role focuses on BMS hardware, bidirectional DC-DC power conversion, battery charging/discharging, protection circuitry, sensing, and hardware validation. You will own designs from architecture and prototyping through testing and production release.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead electrical design for BBU, UPS, and power conversion electronics from concept through production.
- Design and analyze bidirectional DC-DC converters, including buck/boost, half-bridge, LLC, dual active bridge, and related topologies.
- Develop battery charging/discharging and BMS hardware for Li-ion, LiFePO4, and lead-acid systems.
- Design protection circuitry for overvoltage, undervoltage, overcurrent, short-circuit, reverse-polarity, and thermal conditions.
- Develop precision voltage, current, and temperature sensing circuitry, including isolation and cell-monitoring hardware.
- Own schematic design, component selection, and PCB layout direction for high-current/high-voltage power electronics.
- Test and debug prototypes using oscilloscopes, power analyzers, electronic loads, battery cyclers, and other lab equipment.
- Partner with firmware engineers on controls, telemetry, fault handling, and hardware/firmware integration.
- Support EMI/EMC, thermal, reliability, safety, and regulatory qualification efforts.
- Evaluate commercial BBU and third-party power electronics to support build-versus-buy decisions.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
- 8+ years of power electronics hardware design experience.
- Hands-on experience with battery backup, UPS, energy storage, BMS, or DC-DC power conversion systems.
- Proven experience designing switch-mode power converters from concept through production.
- Experience with battery charging/discharging circuitry and BMS hardware.
- Strong understanding of high-energy battery protection and fail-safe design.
- Experience with analog/digital control loops, sensing circuitry, and power converter stability.
- Experience with CAN, I2C, SPI, UART, RS-485, Modbus, or similar communication protocols.
- Experience with schematic/PCB tools such as Altium, OrCAD, or KiCad and simulation tools such as SPICE or PLECS.
- Strong hands-on electrical lab and troubleshooting experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of UL, IEC, and UN 38.3 battery/UPS safety standards.
- Experience with battery AFE, cell-monitoring, or fuel-gauge ICs.
- Experience with SiC or GaN power devices.
- Exposure to PFC or DC-AC inverter design.
- Experience with data center, telecommunications, industrial, or military power systems.
- PE license or advanced engineering credential is a plus.
Compensation
$155,400/yr - $202,000/yr USD
Location
