Responsibilities

• Own board-level SI/PI analysis and board-to-board signal loss in HyperLynx.
• Review schematics and layouts for SI/PI issues; provide routing guidance.
• Own DDR test methodology and part qualification; characterize SerDes and memory parts.
• Define PCB stackups balancing power/signal needs; work with fab houses.
• Design high-reliability digital/analog systems for autonomous vehicles; 3GHz+ interfaces with ESD/surge mitigation.
• Develop PCB/CCA designs with SoCs, microprocessors, interfaces (DDR, I2C, CAN, SPI, SerDes, Ethernet).
• Lead hardware bring-up, debugging, prototyping, validation, verification in lab.
• Support designs from concept through production and field deployment.
• Collaborate with systems, software, safety, test, manufacturing, procurement.
• Mentor junior engineers; improve designs for cost, reliability, manufacturability.

Senior Electrical Engineer – PCB & Signal Integrity Design

Location: Clarksburg, MD | On-site

About the Opportunity

Our client is a leading defense technology company developing advanced autonomous systems for military and commercial vehicles. They're seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to own board-level signal and power integrity for next-generation hardware, splitting time between new design work and validating/fixing existing designs in the lab.

Responsibilities

• Own board-level signal integrity (SI) and power integrity (PI) analysis in HyperLynx, including board-to-board signal loss analysis across interconnects — this is the team's top current need.
• Independently review schematics and layouts for SI/PI issues including series termination and routing guidance.
• Own DDR test methodology and part qualification, including characterizing new SerDes and memory parts as boards return from fab.
• Define PCB stackups that balance power/signal routing needs, working directly with fab houses on material and lamination tradeoffs.
• Design high-reliability digital and analog electrical systems for autonomous vehicles, including 3GHz+ high-speed interfaces with ESD/surge mitigation.
• Contribute to power system design, including buck/boost converter work as the team builds in-house power supply capability.
• Develop PCB/CCA designs incorporating SoCs, microprocessors, controllers, and interfaces including DDR, I2C, CAN, SPI, SerDes, and Ethernet.
• Lead hardware bring-up, debugging, prototyping, validation, and verification testing in the lab.
• Support designs from concept through production and field deployment.
• Collaborate with systems, software, safety, test, manufacturing, and procurement teams.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers.
• Improve existing designs for cost, reliability, manufacturability, and production efficiency.

Required Qualifications

• B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
• 5+ years of hardware design experience (flexible upward for Staff-level candidates).
• Demonstrated, hands-on SI/PI simulation experience in HyperLynx or an equivalent tool — layout-level work, not schematic-only.
• Demonstrated ownership of a full design cycle: schematic layout bring-up validation.
• Experience with PCB stackup design, multilayer boards, and high-speed digital/analog circuits.
• Proficiency with Altium, OrCAD, or similar PCB design tools.
• Hands-on lab debugging: oscilloscopes, logic analyzers.
• Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Must be a U.S. citizen.

Preferred Qualifications

• Power supply / buck-boost converter design background — a current team gap, valued but not required.
• Comfort with LTSpice for schematic-level power design.
• Any high-reliability industry background (defense, aerospace, automotive, software-defined radio) — rigor matters more than domain match.
• Familiarity with MIL-STD or ISO 26262 style standards (ISO 26262, MIL-STD-882E/1275/461/464/810).
• Experience with GMSL/MIPI CSI-2 camera interfaces.
• Automotive or embedded/networking hardware design experience.
• Experience working in a small engineering team and mentoring junior engineers.
• $120,000–$160,000 base salary (may flex upward for a Staff-level candidate)
