About the Role
An established engineering consulting firm in Northern Virginia is seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer with 10+ years of electrical building systems and facilities design experience.
The position offers the opportunity to lead technically complex government, institutional, and commercial projects, including highly secure facilities, renovations, and new construction.
The successful candidate will serve as the electrical discipline lead and take ownership of projects throughout the full lifecycle, from initial site survey and design through construction administration and final inspection.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead electrical design for government, institutional, and commercial facilities
- Serve as the primary point of contact for electrical-related project issues
- Design power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, security, and telecom/data systems
- Design medium-voltage, UPS, emergency generator, grounding, and utility systems
- Perform electrical calculations and equipment selection
- Conduct site surveys and existing-condition assessments
- Prepare technical reports, drawings, and project specifications
- Coordinate designs across multidisciplinary engineering teams
- Direct and provide technical guidance to engineers and designers
- Respond to RFIs and review construction submittals
- Conduct and document final inspections
- Develop as-built drawings and project documentation
- Manage project schedules, budgets, and deliverables
- Perform quality-control reviews of electrical designs
- Support projects from initial design through construction completion
Qualifications
- 10+ years of electrical building systems / facilities design experience
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required
- Extensive experience with government, institutional, and/or commercial facilities
- Experience with both renovation and new construction projects
- Strong knowledge of power distribution and lighting design
- Experience with medium-voltage systems, UPS, emergency generators, grounding, and utility systems
- Experience designing fire alarm and telecom/data systems
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and Revit
- Experience with SKM and AGI32
- Ability to independently lead projects from initial survey through completion
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to lead and coordinate engineers and designers
- Active Secret or Top Secret security clearance strongly preferred
- LEED AP, RCDD, or CDT certification beneficial
