Job summary

Freeport-McMoRan is seeking an Electrical Engineer to provide technical guidance on engineering projects at our Bagdad operations in Arizona. You will support Senior Engineers, manage small to mid-size site construction, and interact with vendors and regulatory bodies.

Ideal candidates hold a Bachelor's or Master’s in Electrical Engineering with related experience and knowledge of power systems, PLCs, and control systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with 3 years of related experience
• Master's degree in Electrical Engineering with 2 years of related experience
• Knowledge of Electrical Engineering principles with understanding of Mechanical and Process techniques
• Ability to research and analyze information of considerable difficulty and draw valid conclusions
• Familiarity with Occupational safety practices and hazard awareness

Responsibilities

• Provide technical advice and guidance for assigned electrical engineering projects
• Assist Senior Engineer in developing projects with new technology to upgrade site safety, efficiencies, cost controls, and environment protection
• Review, investigate and develop recommendations for engineering projects
• Manage small to medium site construction or modification projects and assist on larger projects
• Administer contracts with vendors for services and equipment
• Develop knowledge of local, state and federal regulations for the area
• Assist in site strategic planning and budgeting for engineering areas
• Develop and evaluate AFEs for capital funding
• Represent site on company steering committees or task forces
• Perform other duties as required

What You Will Do

• Provide technical advice and guidance for assigned electrical engineering projects.
• Assist Senior Engineer in developing Electrical Engineering projects utilizing new technology to constantly upgrade and improve site safety, efficiencies, cost controls, quality controls and protection of the environment.
• Review, investigate and develop appropriate recommendations regarding assigned Engineering projects
• Manage small to medium site construction, expansion or modification projects, and assists the Senior Engineer on large/complex site planning/construction, expansion or modifications
• Administer contracts with vendors for the provision of services and equipment
• Develop working knowledge of local, state and federal regulations appropriate to area of assignment
• Assist the Senior Engineer in contributing to site strategic planning and budgeting efforts for designated Engineering areas
• Develop and evaluate AFE’s (Authorization for Expenditure) for capital funding requests
• May represent the site on company sponsored steering committees, task forces, or teams
• Perform other duties as required

What You Bring To Freeport

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related Engineering disciplineandthree (3) years of related experience in Engineering,OR
• Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related Engineering disciplineandtwo (2) years of related experience in Engineering
• Knowledge of the principles and practices of Electrical Engineering with an understanding of Mechanical and Process Engineering techniques
• Ability to research and analyze information of considerable difficulty and draw valid conclusions
• Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions
• Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
• Familiarity and some experience in Electronics, PLCs, and Control Systems
• Skill in managing small to medium Engineering projects
• Ability to evaluate and implement new methods and techniques for operational improvement

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced degree or Professional Engineering (PE) Certification
• Experience with or classes related to Power Systems Engineering
• Experience with Power System Modeling software such as SKM, eTAP, etc.
• Familiarity with industrial AC and DC motors, VFD’s and plant instrumentation
• Familiarity with powerline layout, engineering and construction
• Familiarity with MV power systems
• Leadership and construction / mining experience
• Knowledge and understanding of NEC & NFPA70E Regulations
• Familiarity with designing Power, Instrumentation and Controls Systems
• Experience with ETAP and AutoCAD or similar software for design
• Self-motivated with excellent work ethic
• Proficiency in MS Office
• Understanding of project life cycle
• Experience in reading electrical drawing and P&Id

What We Offer You

The estimated annual pay range for this role is currently$93,000-$127,500. This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional discretionary and incentive payment considerations based on company and individual performance. More details will be shared during the hiring process.
