SENIOR ELECTRICAL DESIGNER

Location: Houston, TX.

Job type: Contract to Hire

Our global EPC Firm client is hiring a Senior Electrical Designer for a contract-to-hire opportunity in Houston, TX.

The Electrical Designer will work on a diverse portfolio of projects with various clients in the refining, midstream, chemicals, and renewable markets.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Design physical layouts for grounding, duct bank, conduit, cable tray, and lighting.
• Plan and develop a full range of drawing deliverables such as one-lines, motor schematics, hazardous areas, grounding, duct bank, lighting, power, cable tray, installation details, and section/elevations.
• Perform calculations for grounding, duct bank, conduit, cable tray, and lighting.
• Follow all company, client, and project design and drafting standards.
• Organize and maintain project revisions to designs and drawings systematically.
• Interpret and apply relevant design codes and specifications.
• Review design deliverables to ensure quality within scope, budget, and schedule.
• Incorporate schedules, budgets, and project criteria into electrical designs and layouts.
• Coordinate drafting and design efforts with internal and external clients and vendors.

REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor’s degree in drafting technology or related field with 7 years of related experience, or an associate's degree with 8 years of related experience, or 9 years of progressive detailing and design experience.
• Proficiency in 2D and 3D applications, with a strong preference for experience in SmartPlant 3D and AutoCAD.
• At least three years of refinery, gas processing, or pipeline experience preferred.
• Experience in Class I Division 2 Groups B, C, D hazardous areas is a plus.
• Good understanding of NEC codes, electrical basics, and CAD standards.
• Ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team including project managers, engineers, and other designers.
• Willingness to travel to job sites and meet with clients and construction personnel as needed.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
