Job description

Senior Electrical Design Engineer – Space Hardware

We’re working with a well-funded space technology company developing space-based LiDAR systems for a new generation of commercial satellite missions.

They’re looking for a Senior Electrical Design Engineer who can take genuine ownership of electronics hardware — from requirements and circuit architecture through component selection, schematic design, PCB development, bring‑up, test and qualification.

This is not a PCB layout-only, FPGA-only or systems integration role. We’re looking for an engineer who enjoys getting into the details of how a circuit works, why components were selected, how it could fail, and what needs to change when hardware has to operate reliably in space.

What you’ll be doing
  • Own electrical hardware designs from concept through flight‑ready hardware
  • Design analog, digital, mixed‑signal and power circuitry
  • Select components and perform detailed circuit analysis, simulation and design verification
  • Develop schematics and drive complex PCB/CCA designs through layout and fabrication
  • Design power distribution, DC/DC conversion, regulation, filtering and protection circuitry
  • Develop high-speed interfaces involving technologies such as LVDS, SerDes, FPGA/processor interfaces, ADC/DAC, Ethernet, PCIe or similar
  • Perform signal integrity, power integrity, timing and noise analysis
  • Personally support board bring‑up, debugging, test and troubleshooting in the lab
  • Design around hardware failure modes and ensure appropriate fault protection and reliability
  • Develop electronics for the realities of the space environment, including radiation, vacuum, thermal cycling, derating, outgassing and thermal management
  • Work directly alongside optical, mechanical, software, FPGA and systems engineers in a small multidisciplinary team
What we’re looking for

You’ll likely have 7+ years of hands‑on electrical/electronics hardware design experience and be comfortable personally owning complex board‑level designs.

Strong experience in several of the following is particularly relevant:

  • Schematic capture and circuit design
  • Analog and mixed‑signal electronics
  • High‑speed digital and differential signaling
  • DC/DC converters, regulators and filtering
  • FPGA, processor, ADC/DAC and sensor interfaces
  • Signal integrity and power integrity
  • Clocking, synchronization and precision timing
  • Noise analysis
  • Component selection and derating
  • Hardware bring‑up and laboratory debugging

Experience designing electronics for spacecraft, satellites, avionics, aerospace, defense, scientific instrumentation, imaging systems or other high‑reliability hardware would be particularly valuable.

Direct LiDAR experience is not required.

This isn’t a role where you’ll own one small piece of a design and pass it downstream.

You’ll join a small, highly technical engineering team and have significant influence over the electrical architecture of hardware that will ultimately operate in orbit.

The company has secured $40M+ in venture funding alongside significant commercial demand for its technology, and this hire will play an important role in taking its next generation of space hardware from development into deployment.
