Job summary

Redwood Materials is seeking a Staff Electrical Design Engineer to own end-to-end electrical design for industrial, office, and lab facilities across multiple locations in the U.S. You will lead medium and low voltage systems, perform system studies, and coordinate multi-discipline teams to deliver IFC packages.

The role requires a PE license (NV or reciprocity) and 10+ years in heavy commercial/industrial sectors, with strong software proficiency and travel flexibility.

Qualifications

  • ABET-accredited B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in Nevada or eligible for reciprocity; must obtain Nevada PE and SC PE within 2 months.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in heavy commercial and industrial sectors.
  • Subject matter expertise in NEC, IECC, and NFPA standards with ability to lead code analysis across multi-discipline projects.
  • Advanced proficiency in Revit MEP, AutoCAD, Navisworks, Bluebeam; SKM or ETAP for design production.
  • Advanced proficiency in AmpCalc for cable ampacity calculations.
  • Photometric studies using Visual or AGI tools.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities; ability to manage multiple concurrent projects.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites; flexible scheduling.
  • Excellent communication skills — verbal, written, and through drawings/sketches.

Responsibilities

  • Design and own a wide range of electrical systems — including medium voltage (up to 34.5 kV) feeds, low voltage power distribution, lighting, raceway, grounding, and communications.
  • Serve as Electrical Engineer of Record and responsible for producing permit and construction drawings.
  • Perform power system studies including short-circuit analysis, arc flash calculations, and protective device coordination using SKM or ETAP to ensure safe and code-compliant designs.
  • Perform cable ampacity calculations using AmpCalc to optimize cable size.
  • Lead multi-discipline coordination with architectural, civil, structural, mechanical, fire & life safety, and other design teams to produce complete Issue for Construction (IFC) packages.
  • Review conceptual designs from manufacturing engineers and stakeholders to identify technical and financial risks. Prepare electrical specifications and conduct technical bid evaluations for designs produced by external design consultants.
  • Lead code analysis for NEC, IECC, and applicable NFPA standards across all project deliverables, and ensure designs meet all regulatory and compliance requirements.
  • Provide construction administration support including RFI responses, submittal reviews, change order management, and on-site inspections. Serve as the technical point of contact during construction and commissioning.
  • Prepare engineering cost estimates and project schedules, perform QA/QC reviews of electrical designs, and mentor junior engineers while contributing to internal design standards and best practices.
