Job summary

Placements24 seeks a Senior Electrical Design Engineer in the Johannesburg area to design control panels, create schematics, and select components for complex automated systems. You will lead electrical design efforts within an industrial setting and collaborate across disciplines.

The role focuses on CAD-driven layouts, PLC/HMI integration, BOM creation, and ensuring compliance with safety and standards. Hybrid work flexibility is provided, with potential site visits as needed.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
Minimum 6 years' experience in electrical design for industrial automation.
Proficiency with CAD software for electrical design (AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN).
Strong knowledge of PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, servo drives, and industrial protocols.

Responsibilities

Design electrical control systems and schematics for industrial automation equipment.
Select and specify electrical components (PLCs, HMIs, motor control centers, sensors, safety devices).
Develop BOMs and provide cost estimations for electrical systems.
Ensure designs comply with IEC, UL, CE standards and safety regulations.
Collaborate with mechanical and software engineers for system integration.
Prepare technical documentation, user manuals, test procedures, and installation guidelines.
Provide technical support during assembly, testing, and commissioning.
Troubleshoot electrical issues and implement effective solutions.
Conduct design reviews and manage timelines and quality.
