Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Electrical Design Engineer specialized in Industrial Automation to join our client in the East London area of the Eastern Cape. You will design electrical control systems, develop automation solutions, and translate client needs into robust electrical designs for diverse industrial applications.

The role requires extensive PLC programming, HMI development, and SCADA experience, plus motor control and electrical design skills.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field.
7+ years of experience in electrical design and industrial automation.
Proficiency in PLC programming (Siemens TIA Portal, Rockwell Studio 5000), HMI, and SCADA.

Responsibilities

Design electrical schematics, control panel layouts, and wiring diagrams using CAD software.
Program and configure PLCs, HMIs, and SCADA to meet project specs.
Select components, motors, drives, and control devices.
Develop and implement system integration strategies for complex automation projects.
Conduct site surveys and commissioning, provide on-site support as needed.
Troubleshoot electrical and automation issues during design, build, and commissioning.
Ensure designs comply with safety standards (IEC 60204-1) and best practices.
Collaborate with mechanical engineers and project managers throughout the lifecycle.
Prepare technical documentation and test procedures.
Provide mentorship to junior engineers and technicians.
