Job summary

Actalent in Austin, TX is seeking an Electrical Controls Engineer to lead electrical architecture for a large-scale robotic construction system, including power distribution, high-precision motion control, and system integration with the BuildOS control platform.

You will mentor junior engineers, drive design standards, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver robust hardware for harsh environments. This contract-to-hire role is onsite in Austin with competitive hourly pay.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with 8+ years of electrical design experience in industrial/automation settings.
• Proficient in control panel design and electrical standards such as UL and NFPA.
• Hands-on experience designing control panels, wiring systems, remote I/O cabinets, and cable harnesses.
• Ability to collaborate cross-functionally in fast-paced engineering teams.
• Capable of self-managing and driving design work independently.
• Strong understanding of electrical engineering fundamentals.

Responsibilities

• Lead electrical hardware design for multi-story robotic systems integrated with the BuildOS platform.
• Oversee electrical integration of automated hardware and optimize real-time sensor feedback loops.
• Drive R&D for robots designed for extreme environments and select robust components.
• Implement safety-rated systems compliant with NEC for outdoor and temporary sites.
• Specify and integrate high-torque motors for precise movement of robotic structures.
• Advance electrical systems from prototype to commercialization with standards compliance.
• Architect hardware for industrial controllers and troubleshoot control logic.
• Mentor junior engineers and technicians, developing internal training materials.
• Perform root-cause analysis on field-deployed robots in rugged environments.
• Support Design for Manufacturing initiatives for efficient production.
