Job summary

SJE is seeking an Electrical/Control Systems Engineer III to join our Charlotte, NC team on-site. You will design electrical control panels, configure PLC/SCADA systems, and lead field commissioning from start to finish, working directly with clients and internal teams.

You will mentor junior staff, troubleshoot real-time issues, and travel 30-60% to site locations across the region and nation. A strong background in automation with UL508A/NEC knowledge is preferred.

Qualifications

• Associate’s or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Instrumentation, or related field or equivalent hands-on experience.
• 7–10 years of experience in automation design, programming, startup, service, or commissioning roles.
• Proficiency with Rockwell, Siemens, Schneider, GE, VTScada, Ignition, and similar systems.

Responsibilities

• Design electrical control panels and systems to meet project specifications.
• Configure PLCs, OITs, and SCADA systems for industrial processes.
• Lead intermediate-level projects and mentor team members.
• Lead field commissioning, I/O checkout, and system startup of PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, VFDs.
• Troubleshoot real-time issues across automation hardware and networks.
• Collaborate with project managers, engineers, contractors, and end users.
• Provide field service and post-installation technical support as needed.
• Redline drawings and document commissioning activities.
• Travel to job sites 30-60%, regionally and nationally.
