Qualifications

• Ten years experience in a Safety Specialist or similar role with a minimum of five years in the Electric Utility industry (Transmission or Distribution).
• Must be knowledgeable and able to interpret and cite OSHA regulations and provide guidance to crews and management on proper application.
• OSHA 500 certification preferred; COSS and CUSP certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

• Champion safety in the field by observing, coaching and taking action to avert safety incidents.
• Conduct field observations to assure compliance with OSHA regulations and Utility Company Safety rules.
• Conduct close call/good catch and ongoing accident investigations.
• Identify and address safety concerns and quality issues associated with the different parts of the project.
• Conduct site and field visits in accordance with each scope.
• Participate in design constructability reviews.
• Ensure contractors are in compliance with Utility Company safety training and procedures.
• Conduct Pre Construction/Safety Kickoff meetings to outline expectations for contractors.
• Conduct safety stand downs as applicable regularly and after safety concerns.
• Audit JSA/JHAs, daily and as tasks change on the job.
• Set safe work expectations according to OSHA and Utility Company regulations.
• Safety - Tailboard conferences, JSA development/review, hazard analysis reviews.
• Monitor skills and abilities of contractors for task, state, exposure and reporting.
• Identify and address all project safety and environmental hazards and concerns.
